Woodland’s story began when the Greenwood Memorial Association formed in 1891. Led by William M. T. Forrester, who also served as secretary of the Independent Order of St. Luke, the association purchased thirty acres of farmland known as the “Hedge Plain” on the northern edge of the city for use as a cemetery.

The cemetery is 105 acres of wooded, rolling hills whose natural attributes are enhanced by the influence of Adolph Strauch, the landscape designer who helped launch the Rural Garden Cemetery movement. 2021-02-09 UNESCO’s World Heritage List motivated it´s choice of Skogskyrkogården as a World Heritage as follows: "Skogskyrkogården (The Woodland Cemetery) is an outstandingly successful example of a designed cultural landscape which blends landform and natural vegetation with architectural features to create a landscape that is ideally suited to its purpose as a cemetery. Woodland Cemetery is one of the nation's five oldest rural/garden cemeteries and a unique cultural, botanical and educational resource in the heart of Dayton, Ohio. Historic Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum was founded in 1841, when John Van Cleve purchased 40 acres of land one mile south of downtown Dayton, Ohio. Woodlands Cemetery is a historic cemetery located in the Village of Cambridge, New York. The 40+ acre property features large shade trees, well maintained driving and walking avenues, historic markers and lovely views from the top of the hill.

I ended up with quite a different type of shots than I had planned. I spent four hours at the cemetery (nearly froze to death) and got about an hour's worth of footage. Completed between 1915 and 1940, The Woodland Cemetery in Stockholm was designed by, at the time, two young architects: Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz.
